The Chimo Youth Retreat Centre was established in 1970 and serves youth and families in the Edmonton region.

Our great staff team provides a broad range of services to youth between the ages of 14-24 that include securing housing, training in personal living skills, relationship skills, parenting support, peer based groups, supports for independence and more! Together with our community partners we assist young people on their road to successful independence. Chimo also serves families through CSD.

We are located in the downtown area for easy access no matter where you live in the city. Take a tour through the website and if you don't find what you are needing, give us a call and maybe we can help point you in the right direction.

Youth and
Our Best!

About Us

Chimo is a place where children, youth and families can learn all kinds of skills, information and tools to help them succeed. We provide multiple services including residential, independent living, and family support programs.

In 1970, Chimo was founded as a private, non-profit society. The original mandate for the group care program was to provide interim care for youth in the Edmonton area. Over the years, as the needs of the community have grown and changed, the mandate, services and programs of the Chimo Youth Retreat Centre have kept pace.

It is our goal to provide an environment that fosters positive personal growth and we are committed to ensuring quality services to every one of our children, youth and families.

Our Mission

Chimo intends to provide services within a healthy environment for each individual or family we work with. The agency employs a holistic approach to delivering services and considers the cognitive, emotional, physical and spiritual strengths and needs of each child, youth and family. In everything we do, Chimo is committed to maintaining respect for the dignity and value of each person we serve. The agency seeks and supports partnerships in the community in order to share expertise, resources and to enhance service delivery. Chimo is committed to continuous quality improvement and ensuring best practices in its services for all children, youth and families.

Our Values

Chimo believes that all people have the right to:

  • respect for their own dignity and value.
  • service without prejudice.
  • to be free from abuse, neglect and harassment.
  • live with people who care for and respect them.
  • be involved in decisions that are made about them.
  • request contact with family and friends.
  • adequate health care.
  • privacy.
  • assistance to be the best they can be.

Our Vision

We envision a commjnity where all children, youth and their families live a happy, healthy life with a bright future. We will contribute to this vision by providing thoughtful, respectful and caring services to all those we serve.

Our Mandate

The Chimo Youth Retreat Centre exists to provide support and services to children, youth and families. These families will no doubt be experiencing some challenges in their lives. We wish to assist them in living safely and successfully in their chosen communities by providing competent services from caring individuals. Chimo provides services primarily within Alberta.
